Frances-Feliz Kearns announced her candidacy for reelection to the ORR school Committee on February 11 at her Kick off Event held at the Mattapoisett Public Library. The election will take place on May 16. The meeting room was packed with her supporters who heard Frances speak about why she is running again.
Frances said that she feels that she has a civic duty to run. Mattapoisett is a beautiful place to live; we have great schools, competent and capable town services, etc. She believes that we have a duty to honor that and do the same when we can so future generations can enjoy these same things. She also feels our elected officials must reflect on the people who live in our communities, as the varied experiences we can bring to the discussion are our strengths.
Frances wants to build upon the work that she started when she was elected in 2020. "We have made great progress in improving the academic opportunities for students. We have also improved student services by approving the budget item to add a Director of Guidance to support the well-being of students as well as support students in their planning for post-secondary careers and education." She also said that "We have an opportunity to start planning for the care and upkeep of our facilities using the state grant money that was awarded to the district for use in 2024. There are so many great opportunities to make an impact in our community, but we have to lay the foundational groundwork now. We need elected officials that have the experience and desire to make positive progress.
